Two students from UIC health sciences colleges – Nirali Chauhan of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Sarah Chang of the UIC College of Nursing – were among the nine amateur bakers sourced from across the U.S. to compete in The Great American Baking Show, a spin-off of the beloved Great British Bake Off.

In a recent interview, the two UIC students talked about how they met, their love of baking, and skills that cross over between healthcare and baking. They also spoke of why they chose UIC for their educations in medicine and nursing:

“UIC was really important to me because of the patient population, the Urban Medicine Program, and the ability to be among other students that really cared about longitudinal partnership and community work.” – Nirali Chauhan

“The College of Nursing at UIC has a fabulous reputation so that was my top choice. I think its connection to community opportunities and the various opportunities for clinical experiences were really attractive. The health campus does fabulous work staying connected to the community, where there are a lot of academic institutions that don’t do that.” – Sarah Chang
