UI Health Team Presents Live Demonstration of Complex Surgery for 17,000 Practitioners

A team of UI Health surgeons was honored to present surgical demonstrations at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology on March 4, 2023. Drs. Joaquin Barboza, Khalil Ibrahim, Amer Ardati, Khaled Abdelhady, Katarina Beckman, Yogesh Jonna and Owais Abdul-Kafi performed two complex coronary and structural heart procedures at the University of Illinois Hospital, and both were broadcast live to over 17,000 cardiology physicians, nurses and researchers. The two surgeries were among only six total procedures featured from hospitals worldwide. Dr. Robert Barish, UIC vice chancellor for health affairs, said, “This is a tremendous honor and a testament to UI Health’s leadership in innovative surgical techniques and exemplifying high quality health care across the globe.”
