With a ribbon-cutting on December 6, the University of Illinois Hospital opened a new CT scanning facility in its Emergency Department (ED). The new CT scanner is a top-of-the-line device which delivers rapid and high-quality imaging to facilitate diagnosis for patients seeking emergency care. Dr. Mark Rosenblatt, UI Health interim chief executive officer, explained that the scanner’s location within the ED was also key to faster diagnosis. ”This will reduce the time that our emergency patients need to wait to receive a CT scan,” he said. ”Within an emergency setting, reduced time for diagnosis can contribute to better health outcomes.” Dr. Robert Barish, UIC vice chancellor for health affairs, added, ”This facility will also improve the overall experience for our patients and their families, as part of our mission to deliver high quality and compassionate care to the communities we serve.”
