UI Health Receives New Recognitions for Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics has been awarded a Sustainable Healthcare Certification from the Joint Commission, in recognition of the hospital’s integration of environmental stewardship into clinical and operational practices while maintaining a focus on quality of care and patient safety. UI Health is committed to reducing its environmental impact through measurable actions that decrease energy, waste, anesthetic gas, and metered-dose inhaler use across the organization, while strengthening governance and accountability for sustainability goals.
UI Health also received two honors from Practice Greenhealth: the Greenhealth Leader Award and, for the first time, the Circles of Excellence Award, which recognizes the health system as a top-ten highest-performing hospital in the Green Building category.
