About this Partner
Mission
Our mission is to unify and represent the collective voice of its membership to advocate, promote, and sustain the community health worker (CHW) workforce throughout Illinois. Our vision is to serve as a central resource for best practices, policies, training, and research aimed at CHWs, employers, and allies. Together, we are committed to creating a vibrant and impactful future for the CHW workforce.
CEOs
Formerly known as the Chicago CHW Local Network, ILCHWA was recognized by the state in 2015 and achieved 501(c)(3) status in 2020. ILCHWA was founded by Leticia and Wandy with the empowering slogan, “Nothing about us, without us.” With a combined experience exceeding 50 years, they have dedicated their careers to working collaboratively with CHWs, especially within Black and Brown communities. They are instrumental in bridging the gap between health systems, managed-care organizations, policymakers, researchers, and the CHWs on the ground, ensuring that the voices of CHWs are translated into systemic change.
Services Offered
ILCHWA is committed to empowering its members through a range of activities, trainings, and workshops, including our annual Chicago and Champaign Summits, networking events, and expert guidance on the statewide CHW certification process alongside Medicaid billing for CHW-eligible activities. We are dedicated to providing prevention services, culturally relevant education, peer-to-peer support, and resources that enhance health and well-being. We proudly collaborate with key stakeholders and health partners to foster positive health outcomes in BIPOC communities, driving meaningful change and sustainable growth.

Organizational Impact to the Community
In 2014, Leticia served on the first Illinois CHW Advisory Board, established by IDPH through Public Act 098-0796, which adopted a standardized definition of CHWs. Their ongoing commitment culminated in the successful enactment of the CHW Certification and Reimbursement Act (Public Act 410 ILCS 67) in 2021, where Wandy is the co-chair of the CHW Certification and Review Board, marking a monumental step forward for the CHW workforce.
